This article provides information about various cases of anomalous changes in
electromagnetic fields recorded in real field conditions in seismically active areas in connection with
the occurrence of earthquakes and various assessments and interpretations of the noted anomalies
are carried. The main attention was focused on the consideration of the concept of changes in the
conditions of waveguide propagation of atmospherics and the model of surface emitters. There is
considered сevery reason to believe that both mechanisms can manifest themselves separately or
together depending on the nature of the process, the rheology of the medium and other geophysical
conditions, just as the position about the simultaneous development of cracking and the release of
radioactive emanations to the day surface is consistent.
